This post is going to be focused on the pressure young people go through when competing in sport. Ranging from Elite/Academy standard to Sunday league/Recreational level. As I go through this blog, I will look at the challenges they face and why they are such a problem.

Looking firstly at reasons why these pressures come about. There are a number of reasons;

Firstly, parents can be a huge influence on their kids, providing a constant source of pressure as children obviously want to perform well in front of their parents to impress them; ‘Pressure on youth to excel year-round at a specific sport and parental misconduct at athletic events of- ten cause young athletes to experience height- ened anxiety and burnout because of the pressure to succeed they perceive when at- tempting to please their parents (Brustad. 1996).

Harnessing the convening power of soccer…in building the health and knowledge assets of young people

THE SKILLZ HEALTH TOURNAMENT

To advance physical well-being and create a platform to deepen SRHR knowledge, HIV prevention messaging and healthy living, 36 purposefully selected secondary schools (6 per Educational District), who have benefitted from the SKILLZ Health program, are currently participating in a world-cup-tournament football competition. The tournament which further demonstrates the convening power of football in the dissemination of health messages will culminate in a grand finale on December 7, 2019 – in commemoration of the 2019 World AIDS Day in Lagos.
